The heat is on. The Sun takes center stage in the Northern Hemisphere, but the creative heat is on in the Gulf of Mexico. The seemingly endless oil spill pours from British Petroleum’s apparently endless list of short cuts, deceptions and lies. They couldn’t do it alone: inspectors and employees saw or knew safeguards were dropped for expediency. Workers died in the explosion, and that was only the beginning of death and destruction that pours out of the well. I hope that by the time you read this, the great bleeding well has been stopped. The destruction and those who will give aide will continue. We will watch in awe as scientists and engineers enter the world stage to solve apparently impossible problems and bring hope. Innovation and compassion inspire heroes at every level. This is the stuff that human greatness is born of. It will cost some their careers and open doors for others.

Sometimes the planets tell a story that is so literal it’s easy to miss. In this case, Neptune is the planet that governs gas and some say oil, too. It makes a stressful aspect to Saturn, the planet of order and structure. Neptune is also powerful spiritual or soulful unity.

Jupiter joins Uranus all Summer and into 2011. Saturn faces and anchors them with structure or order. Neptune triggers Saturn for illumination, but could inspire lies. Saturn is now moving forward. After 9 months of labor, there is new life born from commitment and structure. You know when you’re in the midst of a Saturn transit to your chart: It feels heavy and sad. It’s like a cement overcoat you can’t take off. Saturn inspires us to change. Jupiter is the great teacher: The litigator and the politician. Uranus is the liberator: He is also anxiety. Look at your life. What would you like to be free of? Whether it’s fear, food, pain, debt or something else: Take a quick note of what comes to mind. Look for a teacher or mentor to guide you. Choose that person or method not by what it promises, but by how you feel when you hear or read about it. Jupiter and Uranus are in a place in the heavens that is all about the powerful life-force energy that moves through your spinal chord. Be guided by yours. Now: Make a commitment to structure. Saturn is all about tenacity and endurance. Will you commit to your freedom?

Saturn is the wisdom of age and experience. Each of us knows what holds us down or back. We know our addictions and which foods enliven us. Use Saturn to set the pattern: make a simple plan and commit to it. Stretch into it. Jupiter says to learn it. Find a coach, or therapist, or online program. Uranus says freedom is the prize. Set a plan or simple action and move it forward to freedom. No matter what holds you, you can do something to liberate yourself.

Neptune brings the invisible to light. It also brings opportunity for those with the foresight to know what works and what doesn’t. They are out there. This summer biology savvy engineers take the stage. Watch for success. It’s coming, but like life itself: success and great acts of generosity and compassion are often born from great tragedy and loss. This is the time to learn Saturn’s wisdom and carry it to all areas of life. It really is important to value structure and caution even when no one is looking but you. Perhaps the ultimate gift is to value integrity and to open the door to innovation.

July: Happy Birthday USA! Independence Day arrives as Uranus, the restless planet of change, innovation, anxiety, and accidents, appears to stand still in the heavens. Find Uranus in a section of the heavens known for powerful intuition. Jupiter, the great teacher, has just passed Uranus and is moving slowly. In fact, Jupiter will follow Uranus’ lead and appear to go backward, too.

This leads to opportunity that is there for all of us. Pull out that great idea and use the Saturn aspect to lay out a plan. Invest your time and energy to make it happen. If Jupiter is knowledge, and Uranus is freedom, then Saturn might be that degree or certification that opens the door to opportunity. Look around your life. What could you do to prepare yourself for the future? How could you enhance your skills? Are you willing to make a commitment to your career or in your personal life? Uranus resists commitment: take a little time to notice where you feel free. Look carefully: Commitment might free you more than your ego would imagine. With Pluto, the planet of catharsis, ready to meet the others this Fall, a little awareness is actually the beginning of BIG change. Your path to liberation might be a divorce, a job change or just a shift in perspective. What jobs are strong? In addition to those mentioned, counseling is needed in many areas. Many of us need help to find the gift of freedom in a sudden change of plans. Whew!

August: Mars comes to Saturn early this month. Mars and Saturn do not get along. Mars wants to fight and Saturn refuses. Mars wants revolution and Saturn wants resolve. Mars facing Uranus is an accident waiting to happen. Keep your eyes on the road. Be alert. That message you must send now can wait until you’re free. Tempers rise and so does the opportunity to face your fears. If Mars comes to Saturn, his impulse to fight could be a call to war. Caution: folks are easy to anger. Those who are aggressive or even a little unstable could end up on the nightly news. Use your internal antennae to tune into your surroundings. That place in line isn’t worth your life. That volatile lover isn’t either. Don’t throw down the gauntlet unless you intend to fight. Daily drama makes for a weary audience.

The Standoff of the Curmudgeons: Saturn, faces Uranus with both squared to Pluto. Each is a powerful planet. When Saturn lands on us we feel alone, old and as if the clock of our time on Earth is ticking away. When Uranus sends his jolt, he is so innately unpredictable that the most intractable folks are ready to let go. Neptune offers the gift of spiritual surrender, but also the cloud of illusion. As they send the cloud of uncertainyy to Saturn, we are more vulnerable and potentially powerful than ever. The trick is to be flexible like a reed in the wind and let it move around or even through you. How well you bend is obvious by the middle of October. These are anxious times. Stretch your faith and know your brain, but most of all, trust wise friends to guide you.

Retrograde Mercury: Mercury is the planet of communication and commerce. When he appears to stop in the heavens and go backward on August 20th it seems that communication goes awry. Particularly these days when every message can quickly go to a million people, it is essential to slow down and think about the power of your words. Most of all, it is essential to look at what you are signing. Jupiter says to get the new car, but Saturn reminds you that the payments go on much longer than the warranty and this could feel more like bondage than liberation. This is the best time to reflect, review and rest. Yes, all the “re” words you can imagine apply here. Mercury goes direct on September 12th- just in time to remember our national pain and to retool for the future.

September: The summer comes to an end. There is the promise of cooler days and tempers. Mars pulls away from the curmudgeons the first week. Saturn pulls away from Pluto and Uranus, too. The process of change is in place. What did you start this summer? If obstacles stood in your path, take careful notes and prepare to start again. Many of us will find the funds and the faith to get off the couch. The gift of youth is the tenacity to give your body what it needs. Saturn understands the value of commitment. As Saturn pulls away, Jupiter and Uranus might just test the waters and indulge in some way. Don’t worry, you’ve learned from the past and your liberation might be freedom from addictions.

The Governor of Louisiana: Bobby Jindal: Keep an eye on him for innovation and courage. He’s young but already experienced with disaster in the Gulf. In 1998 he oversaw a massive and successful evacuation in Louisiana. This year, his actions and fight for the people of his state, the coastal economy and beyond, will make President Obama appear distant and uninvolved. But Jindal pushed for offshore drilling. Now he is in the midst of the biggest cleanup ever. The summer’s transits are strong for his political power. It’s time to watch and see how he overcomes his legislative past. It will be interesting to see him handle the situation. I hope he and President Obama can work together. It’s not about one party, but about leadership: Whew! Will his actions now free him from the images of oil and economic destruction? Will he be held accountable or will his future actions free him from his past? We can all apply this somewhere. From the office to the dinner table: What you do from this point forward may free you from something in your past.

President Obama: The heavy transits to his birth chart in May will have lasting impact. The President will be haunted by oil spill images throughout his career. In Vedic astrology there are planets who are friends to your chart and those who are not. Mars is not a friend to the President, Saturn is. In fact his own plan or tenacity and commitment serve him well. He was born with Jupiter, the political planet, next to Saturn. Saturn often seems detached or cool because he is cautious and careful. His Jupiter is big ideas and great speeches. He was born with Mars in a very stressful place in the heavens: In the house of life and death. Every President has death threats. Every President has unfathomable responsibility. Every President is literally the Commander and Chief of the most powerful military in the world.

This summer, the President is pushed to take action and to command. I expect that he will be threatened at home and abroad. Nations like North Korea, Iran, and Afghanistan will compel him to make decisions he would rather avoid. I said months ago that the President’s Cabinet will change by next year. Incompetence in the face of this spill is the crowbar that will push them out so strong innovators can come into his administration. To the President: I wish him well, I expect he will meet innovative heroes and roll up his sleeves for the people, the marine life, and the economy of the Gulf. I believe he is in danger, but I also expect that he will seize the moment to liberate himself from political obligation and be the Commander in Chief we saw in the election. Political advisers can’t help him: The Gov. of Louisiana can show him the best of Mars. The President can show us all the gift of Jupiter when disciplined by Saturn.

How the Love Grows: It grows through compassion, but it continues to grow. Venus is the love planet. She moves through action-oriented lunar mansions this summer. Get up and dare to love. Get your hands dirty and help. Develop a plan to embrace others. It is a wise investment. I expect many engagements and marriages this summer. But most of all, I expect commitment and inner growth. We are touched by images of compassion and generosity and we learn that generosity brings great returns.

Where the Money Flows: Literally, it flows from BP to other companies. Watch the Market slowly rebound. Keep an eye out for innovators and new technology. Mostly, keep the faith. A plan or structure set this summer could bring lasting returns.

Welcome spring with exciting new growth and purposeful action.

Welcome spring with exciting new growth and purposeful action. Winter is over or on its final glacial gusts. We are on time to break out of heavy layers, and shake ourselves free. Nature bursts out of dormant branches into buds. She has to push out of buds into blooms. Finally she calls the bees and butterflies to pollinate and set fruit. It all happens in a few months. There is nothing quite as tenacious and determined as a chick pecking its way out of the egg: Or as patient as a butterfly emerging from its chrysalis. Slow down and watch. Prepare to do what is needed to transform your own life. We are one of Earth’s creatures and like the rest, we are compelled in one way or another to break free and embrace the gift of birth. Perhaps the powerful Mars transits are the push you need to start pecking free. Perhaps you are waiting for the kiss of sunshine to emerge and stretch your wings. There is no guarantee except that the process is part of us. It will be a mix of pain, joy, struggle and ease. It is filled with opportunity. Some will fall into change, while many more are compelled to move out of the womb into action. Just like the beginning of all life, it is natural. No matter how you emerge; You are right on time.

Mars, the planet of action and energy, is moving forward. There is no better use of Mars’ momentum than purposeful action. In many ways, nature’s creatures only know purposeful action. They have work to do and emerge with the assignment to live, play, procreate, protect, and enjoy food. Often they have loads of fun in the midst of very busy lives. They do not feel sorry for themselves.

Two years ago my dear husband suffered a crippling stroke. Since that time it’s been a daily–even hourly–commitment by both of us to regain his speech, cognition, mobility and use of his right arm. One day I asked him why he didn’t feel sorry for himself. He said that he has much to do to recover, and that if he did that, he wouldn’t be able to do what it takes to heal. This was such a gift to me. I was feeling sorry for myself and it literally sapped my energy and joy. Mars is now moving forward.

April: Mars is moving and we are emerging. Mars is all about activity. “Let’s do it my way now!” “Are you with me or against me?” The desire for purposeful action is strong. Watch as properties move on the market and economic news tentatively gets stronger. Think of Mars as the Market. When Mars gains momentum after a lull, folks stop worrying about risk as much as they worry about missing an opportunity. Take care of the details. Get your taxes or extension done. Mars is moving forward and while Mercury goes retrograde this month, it doesn’t confuse communication until the 17th. Retrograde Mercury is good for mental rest and miscommunication until May 11th. April is more than taxes and duty; she brings a lovely transit of Venus, the planet of love and money. In Vedic astrology Venus is happy in Taurus from April 20th until May 15th. There is action, play and romantic potential everywhere. Get on out of that chrysalis and spread your gossamer wings! It’s what’s natural.

May: May begins with Venus at her best. That means spending more to get the very best she can almost afford. This should be good for retail. If you are on a budget, then you had better be creative or shop resale. Think of it as recycled style. If you’re holding onto that cocoon, then it’s time to push on out. You could change your image with a makeover. Saturn, as structure, faces Uranus, the planet of change. They started their dance last year. Now they are facing each other again. Their push isn’t just seen in society…it is also evident in appearance and abundance and maybe even a big change in work or residence. Would you like to change your abundance? Jupiter joins Uranus: Jupiter’s lessons are about excess. What do you do with your cash? What brings you freedom and what holds you down? What did you learn from the last boom and bust? Think of Jupiter as your personal guru and Uranus as ways to set yourself free. Jupiter is in a constellation he enjoys: Pisces. However, he will teach us in some manner through excess. It could be through excessive fear or doubts. It might be through excessive caution, eating or spending. Venus is in the lunar mansion Rohini which means “the most beloved wife.” Venus here likes nice things. It doesn’t mean lots of them. It just means the ones you really like. President Obama has his Moon there. He likes to look good in his well-tailored suits. He didn’t get them until he made the money. We can learn from him there. Indulge where we can, appreciate and nurture what we’ve planted, and learn what fits us well.

June: Jupiter and Uranus spend the month together. We continue to learn: What liberates you and when do you feel trapped? I expect plenty of weddings. Commitment can liberate you when you’ve worked to develop a relationship. I expect plenty of mergers in the corporate world, too. The Uranus knot to untie is how to balance commitment and freedom: Is the notion that sharing life or debt or a name will cost you your individuality true for you? Or is that union what might just free you to evolve and grow through love and the desire to be protected or the strength to be the protector? Yes, there will be plenty of second thoughts. Some “mergers” might be delayed until the beginning of 2011. But overall, Saturn is the wisdom of age and time. He shows you the joy of simple daily experience and the truth that we will all age and ultimately die. Saturn facing the Jupiter-Uranus union reminds us that there is strength in commitment and there is value in being there for another. This might be a friend, a colleague, an acquaintance, family member or even a stranger. It is valuable to be there for another person and that investment will cost you some of your own freedom. Jupiter reminds us that it is a joyful investment, Uranus reminds us that it is ultimate liberation to give and Saturn shows us how we are more like the old folks than we could have ever imagined. It’s a good time to enjoy each hour of each day…Even if they look like a burden.

How the Love Grows: It grows cautiously. Planets in opposition are like a great scale weighing and assessing. Fortunately, Venus and Mars are both moving ahead. Venus is ready to love again and Mars is finally ready to lead her on the dance floor of romance. The only question for you: Who wears the Mars in your relationship?

Where the Money Flows: It too moves. Wise investors look at many different areas. The Mars momentum is actually good for risk. A busy Mars is often an indicator that more investors are in. Real estate and energy are gaining strength. I’m not a financial person, but I do know that when the economy makes an adjustment more people and businesses move to Texas. In general, money and risk are on again. Those powerful opposition planets indicate caution and ups, downs then ups again. Growth is everywhere, it’s just doing a shuffle rather than running a sprint.

Something old is New Again: The big transit this season is Saturn, the planet of structure and form, opposing Uranus, the planet of change. We all talk about change, but like a chick that suddenly outgrows his egg; we wait until the familiar no longer fits. In terms of the outer planets, the change is a long process. Uranus often brings a situation that looks crazy or people who seem to act out in odd ways. The balance with Saturn structure and Uranus change is to build something more useful rather than simply destroy something old. The “Tea party” movement is a great example of the Saturn-Uranus dance. In May, Jupiter, the politician of the heavens, joins Uranus. Watch faces in the news and in this movement. Sara Palin is its darling now. She’ll have plenty of competition for that spot this summer. Jupiter takes the Uranus-Saturn dilemma and turns it into a political platform. The hope of change is met with fear in all of life. But Jupiter steps onto the platform and says the hope of political power comes from the power to persuade and because “We the People” are what “they the candidates” need.

The Obama Presidency: Mars or action was stymied earlier this year. On March 11th, Mars finally started to move forward. In Vedic astrology, there are planets that can bring great success and those that could bring us down. Mars’ nature is to be of service: to push forward in the face of opposition and to take risks. In the President’s chart, Mars is in a very stressful position: At the very last degree of a constellation. As a candidate for the Democratic nomination, President Obama moved slowly and carefully. He allowed his opponents to charge ahead. He was the wise one with insight, tolerance and patience. His message was simple and spoke to the desire of many for vision and change within the structure. These traits are Saturn’s virtues with Jupiter’s enthusiasm. He has a beautiful Saturn in his chart. Saturn is uplifted by Jupiter’s optimism and they are both at the very front of his chart. They represent birth and faith in the process.

As I write this, I don’t know what happened with the Healthcare vote. I know that the President at least appears to be pushing ahead. I know that he must be impatient and frustrated. I would like to remind him of his Saturn gifts and of the potential for folly if he charges into battle without enough troops or experience. I know that this legislation will only succeed if he finds a way to bring the opposition to the table: Some way to convert them to the purpose and value of change without destroying the system that exists. Mars isn’t his friend. I suspect that there is much personal frustration behind the scenes. As the captain of this country, this legislation could be his albatross, and could ultimately pull his presidency down. I expect him to simplify the legislation and start with a foundation for success: To work with the planets and not against them. If not, it could turn his legacy into a sinking ship. Mars charges ahead and he will be tempted to push it through if possible. But that will not warrant success. It could be just the distraction the opposition needs. What I want personally isn’t the issue here. It’s which planets bring him success. I ask for wisdom and cooperation to restructure rather than destroy.

President Obama has the lovely Venus on his Moon in May. That should bring cooperation, charisma and charm through him. Throughout the year, the First Lady continues to enjoy lovely Jupiter transits without the Mars distractions. Her popularity will continue to grow and she will have measurable success with her campaign to stop childhood obesity. She is a rising star. Her husband is obviously successful, but he is at the end of a major cycle in his life. For any person it is filled with crossroads: It could lead to a one term Presidency or failure. I do expect some sort of bill to pass. Will it thrive and be a success or will it be mired in bureaucracy? That is the question.

Welcome to a New Year! We begin the year ready to detach from the past and free ourselves from those painful memories and fear of the future. This is an exciting year—one filled with great discoveries and opportunity. In Vedic astrology, Jupiter is now in Aquarius. This happens every 12 years. In India myth and faith promise that there are 42 days that begin January 14th and go until April 28th. During this time, if you bathe in the waters of the Ganges river, you will be liberated from your karmas and reason or need to reincarnate to this life. There is a festival in Hardiwar this year that boasts that 50 to 100 million faithful will participate. They believe that during this time the river’s waters are turned into the nectar of immortality. It is called Kumbh (Jupiter) Mela (human fair).

While most of us cannot even imagine what it might be like to bathe in a river, much less with tens of millions of others in one city, we can imagine the longing for freedom: liberation from the pain that is a part of life. During this time, we can in spirit imagine that we are all one. We can drop our protective armor; and be freed from the fear of the future in this life and beyond. Once we experience that level of liberation, perhaps we can carry it through to the rest of our days. It’s a generous thought and Jupiter is by nature generous. Let us hold this image as we move through the Winter of 2010.

Jupiter in Aquarius: Jupiter is moving quickly through the heavens. He moves through 2 lunar mansions this season. The first is Dhanishta: “a circle of women dancing and drumming.” It’s a great place for drumming up business and promises the economy will continue to grow. Then on January 21st, the Winter Solstice, he enters Shatibishik: “An old man carrying a bundle of roots.” Jupiter loves to teach and learn. This mansion is great for medical discoveries. Watch for news about medicinal roots or herbs through the year and particularly this season. Jupiter will leave Aquarius the first time on May 1st. For now, folks with planets in Aquarius get a collective boost. Call it a bath of insight and hope of liberation from the painful thoughts or desires that keep us separate.

Retrograde Mars: Mars appears to move backward from December 20, 2009 until March 10, 2010. Imagine that something that irritates you sits on you. It’s almost impossible to ignore hives or a headache or anger or the desire to serve. It is a delicate place for our nation’s leaders. This Mars tells me that the President was sincere when he said that there is a threat and need to send more troops. However, it also tells me that each of us, who have planets in Cancer where Mars lingers until the end of May, are also being called to weigh and assess threats. We are asked to make wise decisions and to stand up when that is right, while we review our personal desire in the face of something greater than self. Whew! You already feel the inner push, but it will take months before it is fully visible. Retrograde Mars is often difficult for business. Folks don’t want to act unless they are certain they are doing the right thing, but it is good for digging deep and pushing something valuable to success. Will it move through you or come at you? It’s hard to tell. The best I can offer is to be alert to what surrounds you. Don’t drive and talk. Notice your anger: what are the key words at the core of your righteous anger? Perhaps you feel trapped or unfairly judged or simply stymied by life. Any action can help dissipate the pressure. When Mars moves backward you may hear from a man from your past. No matter, you’ll think back and learn from men you knew then.

January 2010: We begin the year with a lunar eclipse on New Years Eve. We embrace the New Year open and sincere. During an eclipse, the eclipse path known as Rahu, the dragon’s head or Ketu, the dragon’s tail, appears to swallow the Moon or Sun like a giant serpent. Then the luminary is reborn. With the Moon, it is a rebirth of perception and emotion. The eclipse comes with the Moon in the mansion Punarvasu: A return to the light. The Sun opposing the Moon falls in a mansion that deals goading or prodding the soul to right action. Remember, a lunar eclipse always comes on a Full Moon. Then there is a Total Solar Eclipse on the 15th. The solar eclipse always falls on a New Moon. Here, the eclipse path known as Rahu swallows the light of the Sun. It is visible from central Africa through the Middle East, India and into China. Watch the news for these areas. The gift of this eclipse comes through understanding the lunar mansion where it falls: the mansion is Utar Ashada. It deals with universal virtues. Perhaps we can bathe in the gifts of tolerance. Perhaps we can liberate our hearts and minds from the judgment that any god or goddess is right for all.

We begin the year and month with a cluster of planets in Sagittarius. Venus and the Sun are traveling together. This helps optimism and may indeed be egotism. Mercury appears to move backward “retrograde” until the 15th. Right on time with the Solar Eclipse, we slow our thoughts and redirect them. We and our money embrace the beginning of a new decade. Ghosts of last January visit investors and they are tentative….for a while. The eclipse at mid-month stirs action in Africa, the Middle East and China. Money moves there and the defense budget gets a boost. Expect defense contracts as well as more economic stimulus: This time, it actually stimulates the economy. Romance is in the air from mid month on. Venus faces Mars in the heavens. The urge to merge and for mergers of all kinds is strong.

February: The money begins to flow. Mercury, the business planet, crosses Rahu or the eclipse path. We could lose our heads to desires. Most likely the desires stimulate risk and the push is on to move the giant shark of capitalism forward. Venus joins Jupiter in Aquarius. The desire to love is strong and insight into the joy of love and faith is even stronger. Think of the tens of millions of faithful washing away the pain of attachment: the pain of life. Does that mean that they are ready to die? Perhaps it simply means that they are ready to ascend from the pain and feel the “good stuff” of love and divine guidance. Perhaps it is the freedom to trust in something greater than greed or fear. Perhaps it is simply the Age of Aquarius revisited now. Do you have faith in human kindness? Will you trust the love you receive and are you willing to give it? It may not be the ’60s revisited, but the concept is the same. What is at the root of love and faith for you? It’s all about getting to the core piece of faith in divine justice, synchronicity and universal love. Could you love one of “those” people? No better time than Valentine’s Day this year to reach out. I expect plenty of new relationships and businesses to begin this month. Are you ready to wash away fear and past pain to try again? We are all granted the gift of amriti: the nectar of immortality and it is fed with divine faith and love…even with “those” people at the party.

March: The month begins with the Sun crossing Jupiter. Think of the Sun as life-force energy. Jupiter is moving quickly now. Jupiter is the great guru or teacher. Notice what you learn about life-force during the first days of the month. Put it on your calendar so you won’t forget. On the 3rd, Venus crosses Uranus, the planet of excitement, unpredictability and the subtle energy body. This is a great day to start something new or simply embrace a different perspective. Take note of what you feel during the first days of this month. When Jupiter crosses Uranus in May and June, we receive a healing gift. I don’t know what it will look like for you; but expect it to be delivered to every soul open. The lunar mansion where this happens is literally called the former happy feet! What made you happy when you were young? Can you dance or walk or skip or slide? This mansion is very busy for the first half of March. Venus is exalted from the 3rd through the end of the month. This is a great time to give and receive. It should bolster romance and the economy. Mars goes direct on the 10th: passion is ready to roar. Venus is stronger so the feminine force is a bit more daring than the masculine, but as Mars starts moving forward, men are catching up and reaching for the phone to call.

Exalted Venus is content and grateful. She sees beauty in what is and finds compassion for others. She isn’t foolish or indulgent. Rather, she feels the sort of connection that comes when you meet others with your heart daringly open. It’s a little gift of grace. Will you reach for it? Remember, hundreds of millions of Hindu faithful believe that the nectar of immortality flows through the Ganges. Perhaps it flows through the river of our faith in humanity’s ability to reach beyond for greatness. What we leave behind is our own immortality. What will you leave? During March the Sun, Moon Venus and Mercury will all face Saturn, the reality planet. We feel divine and anchor that experience into the tangible world. As they also trigger Pluto, we have the gift of transformation and the possibility of destruction. Don’t underestimate the power of greed and violence, but don’t focus so intently upon them that you miss the gift of love in the midst of the pain of mortality. Whew! Big stuff and a great party!

President Obama: Mars, the planet of action and aggression, begins the year on his point of open enemies. It will finally move backward, but continue to trigger him intensely. He is losing patience and his open enemies are many. The most open and most deceptive at once are the Taliban. I believe him when he states that he has good reason to increase troops in Afghanistan and I am truly grateful for the brave men and women who serve. Mars is the troops! Expect to see more of our Commander and Chief interacting with them this year. Expect the weight of casualties to sit heavily on his heart. The enemy will blame him for their violent acts.

Mars is moving backward, but this transit heightens the President’s desire for action: He wants to get it done. The house of open enemies is also the house of partnerships! I do not see anything in the First Lady’s chart to indicate difficulty. In fact, she is likely to have good press and plenty of opportunities to reach out and teach others. I expect to see more of her…and to like her more. She is coming out of the bubble and into her own strength. And this woman was born with a powerful Mars of her own. She is bossy and passionate and impatient and playful and wants to do something memorable. Watch her role grow this season. But there are other “partnerships” for the President not so favorable. There are changes in his staff and his Chief of Staff Emanuel may push the limits of trust and ego. Neptune triggers his chart, so we won’t “see” it clearly, but The President is likely already alert…at least he should be careful of an ego this enormous. May he bathe in the collective river of consciousness: May the President and we see who is wise counsel and who ties us to the pain of impossible decisions and treacherous partners.

Here we are, living out the final months of the first decade...

Here we are, living out the final months of the first decade of the first century in a millennium. The greatest gift and the trickiest part of being human is being aware that time is moving and that the future will hold great gifts and joys, as well as bring sorrow and challenges. Learn to live in the present time and to embrace the joys and gifts of this moment, while understanding that each breath is a gift, which one day will end for us all. In short: think ahead and make plans, while refining the art of living in the moment. As we move through the final months of this year, we are the people who will share our beliefs, our faith and, yes, the history of our folly with generations to come. The task of enjoying your life is to simply live it as you take measured precautions and make investments for the future. Risk what you can and celebrate what you have. Live for now and prepare for the future.

As we begin October, Mars, the action planet, moves into a lunar mansion called Pushya. This is good for getting things done. The trick is to take decisive action, with a purpose in mind. If you aren’t sure where you want to be next summer, then take things very slowly. This fall it’s very easy to react rather than to be exact and that can lead any or many of us astray this season. You see, Mars loves to dive into something. He is in the constellation Cancer, which is very interested in taking care of the home or nest. It’s good at making money and spending it. We, the People of the United States, live in a 2-party Democracy. There is currently a majority of Democrats in both the House and Senate and there is a Democrat who is President. The Mars push (yes, Pushya is a pushy lunar mansion) to get something done may lead to folly. It is imperative that we set aside our emotions and get the facts. It is essential to the Obama Presidency that he be patient and take the time needed to build lasting change. Unfortunately, the transits reveal impatience in many if not all of us, so the rush to enact is met with a rush to reach and could lead to no action at all.

This is not only true in Washington, DC, but it is also true for you and me. We all have things we started and tried to get going earlier this year. Now is the time to review the plan, take whatever time is necessary to build a solid foundation, then do what is needed to get it going. Slow planning and consideration are important. Why? Because you’ll probably get what you want, however, you’ll need to determine if what you want now will still be desired next summer. Saturn pulls ahead of Uranus, which is great for economic action, but they’ll face off again in the spring and what is built on faulty foundation now could come down quickly then. So don’t stretch to buy what you can’t afford. Lay out your plans carefully and listen to the voice of the past, as well as your excitement for the future. This Autumn is not only about bringing things to an end, but about setting a foundation for the future.

Saturn is now in the beginning of the constellation Virgo, where he’ll be for 2 years. He offers his cautious wisdom from decades of experience, but it lands on ears too busy to listen. He tries to point to caution, but most are tuned into their own thoughts and are busy texting and updating their blogs. Saturn is a heavy weight. No one wants to hear his call to invest and build slowly.

How the Money Flows: I expect the economy will show strong signs of recovery, but expect the Credit Card companies to play with their new “regulations” so keep an eye on your statement. I would not be surprised if the $8,000 tax incentive to new homebuyers was extended. Expect business momentum to pick up this fall as well. But can we trust it long term? I don’t know, but do expect a little boom this fall. The Market continues to be volatile, but is coming up as we end the year. Oil and gas prices are rising, too, so expect more drilling here as this year ends. This is the season voted most likely to seduce you with the latest beanie-baby investment. It will be most successful for folks who sell with some gain rather than holding out for the greatest profit. It is volatile, emotional and exciting, and filled with marches, protests and motivated, passionate leaders in all walks of life. It is an exciting time to be alive, but not the most cautious.

Where the Love Grows: It grows cautiously in October as we weigh the risk and desire. It grows more easily in November as we find joy in simple activities that bring joy to daily life. It grows deeply in December as we reach for someone to share family time with: Someone who knows what we like or is willing to learn. It is a strong season to deepen your relationship or to seek one that has plenty of potential to run deep.

Iran continues to be a place of political unrest. Their people reach out to the West and there is a response. It may not be public, but we may hear the details later. There are defectors coming out with stories to tell that are compelling to Western leaders and people. For now, Iran is tightening down its control on its people. It is painful to watch and it may take years, but a revolution was begun with the last election. We are watching the first stages of the end of Iran’s current leadership.

October: On October 12th, Jupiter appears to stop in the heavens, then move forward. Jupiter is the guru, teacher, actor, lawyer and the planet of optimism. He appears to stop in the heavens in the lunar mansion Shravana, which is very good at study, learning and listening. We all strain to sort through the noise called “news” and many are compelled to act or react with passion. This is a fabulous time to go back to that good idea you had, but never got around to. It is time to get going and although our optimism may be faulty, it gets us off the couch and out of the void.

Mars is irritable and aggressive from October through May. Be aware when you travel, but most of all be aware of your own temperament. This is a time when despots like to strut their power in the world. The more isolated, the more aggressive. The world’s leaders have their hands full–wish them success and wise guidance. Mars moves into Cancer in your Vedic chart so notice where you are getting impatient. Although Mars gets couch potatoes moving, it often pushes us beyond endurance. Mars will remain within 30 degrees until the end of May 2010. Get used to it and practice patience. Mars is great for exercise and service. Hmm, does exercising patience count? You bet it does! I expect loads of small and large businesses to get going this season.

Mars with Ketu. October 4th-15th the planet of war joins Ketu, the point of karma (events that are destined, but would never be planned). This combination is intense. For some, this is a time of loss. There is nothing to do, but accept the loss, grieve and start again. You were born with the strength to go on. Watch the world stage for signs of a conflict ending. Notice any political figure that rises to power as his nation struggles with economic crises. Be aware of our own desire to make some group the scapegoat of our economic fears. This general fearful state makes it difficult for the Democrats to push any legislation through. There are wary politicians on both sides. It is tempting for many to just jump in.

November: This is an important month to keep our eyes on the international stage. Powerful political figures come forward to help the nation. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, President Obama, Former President GWB and Senator John McCain are all in the news for the next 6 months. Something big is happening now. Iran and North Korea remain in the news as political power changes hands in both countries during the next 3-5 months. Money goes into defense projects. This is good for Texas and important for the US to hold its position in the world.

December: The planets bunch up briefly in mid-December. Turn back to February 2009 to see what we’ll be talking about at the end of the year. Yes, economic news is varied. Money and spending are erratic. The shopping season isn’t a bust, but it’s not really great either. Sales remain a big motivator. Many new relationships happen in the fall and folks reunite, too. December is always a busy month. Investors take profits. Jupiter with Neptune and Chiron culminate on Dec. 21st. Looking back over 2009, Jupiter, the great guru or teacher, crossed Neptune, the planet of mystical insights and illusion. For some, a powerful religious experience pulled them together. Various groups ride fast on fear and count the signs that the end is coming. This is also true with the pandemic fears for Swine Flu. They are still around, however, as the year ends we notice that they were not manifested. Chiron, the wounded healer, also joined this dance. Healthcare’s wounds as a whole were brought center stage. We the People were and are reminded that we must be pro-active with our own health. It is an exciting time. As the year ends, and these planets pull apart, we are reminded that faith and optimism are potent tools for healing and health. By the way, gas and oil prices are rising and this is a trend for 2010. A lunar eclipse on December 31st (New Years Eve), makes this the perfect time to shed the old and embrace the new.

The Obama Administration: The powerful Jupiter station in October is at the front of President Obama’s chart. He starts to get his gravitas back. It looks as if international politics pulls him into action. It also appears that the House and Senate begin to develop another Healthcare legislation. Obama has loads of vitriolic opposition. By year’s end, Mars is in his 7th house of partnerships and open opposition; his close advisers and “partners” start making news. Expect more First-Lady-Enthusiasm and criticism. I expect changes in his cabinet early next year. The buzz of his opposition grows louder this fall and doesn’t quiet until next summer. These aspects may also signify international threats to him. At the least, he will have the opportunity to sit down with his opposition and decide if he truly can cooperate. Expect loads of news and interviews with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Senator John McCain. They offer the wisdom of age and experience, political insight and information to the President. The Mars action brings GWB back onto the national and world stage as the year ends. He and President Obama may become friends. I expect President Clinton, President Obama and both Presidents Bush to come together for a cause before next summer. I hope it’s a positive one.

Welcome Summer with long days and an occasional cool breeze...

Welcome Summer with long days and an occasional cool breeze. Things do heat up and it’s always a blessing to have a little personal space. That’s how the planets manifest, too! This summer they are nicely scattered around the heavens. If you find frustration, you’ll also uncover compassion, empathy and even humor! There are 3 eclipses: the perfect time to refine your personal relationship with yourself and develop a sense of balance between what you can control and where you need to simply let it be.

For some, the weight of the recession is enormous. For most, it is an opportunity to get finances in order and to give what and when you can. Astrologers often talk about Venus as the planet of love, beauty and money. However, she is also the grace of a compassionate heart and the desire to give. When she is strong in the heavens, we have a choice to stretch beyond self and give to others. If you have no money, give your time and lend your enthusiasm for the cause at hand. We start the Summer with Venus strong and Jupiter, the “optimistic believer”, sitting with Neptune, the dreamer, and Chiron, “the wounded healer”, who finds his heart is healed by giving. I can’t imagine a better summer to let complaints about the heat fade away among queries: where am I needed and how can I make this day better?

Who are these planets? Jupiter is a lucky, happy planet, who may overindulge, but usually can find something to believe in to help him get through life. If Jupiter triggers your chart, you should find the inner strength to pull out of the collective dismay. You might just find a way to be a big winner of something. Jupiter loves to do. He hates to diet and does better by adding more exercise…preferably something fun. Jupiter is big and wants the double dip with chocolate and nuts…not the plain low-fat version of life. Better get moving if he’s paying a long visit to you. No matter how difficult the circumstances are in your life, the gift of Jupiter is hope, faith and enough optimism to draw people and opportunity to you.

Jupiter isn’t alone: Neptune joins him in July. Neptune and Jupiter can be great for religion. If the Market flirts with optimism, Neptune can bring surprising highs and can bring up the price of gas and oil. Remember, this comes back around in January 2010. Jupiter with Neptune is innately creative. If it triggers something in your chart, it could be the height of manifestation or the depth of delusion. It is up to each of us to be aware and to swim when we need to in order to get back to solid foundations.

Saturn pulls ahead: Have you felt the weight of the ages on your shoulders? Do you feel palpably aware of your age or mortality? Are you more “sensitive” to the tick, tick, tick of time? Chances are Saturn has been triggering your chart heavily. In mid-September, Saturn should finally leave you alone. You may suddenly notice that birds are singing and the sky is blue on or about September 15th. Whew!

July: Venus lands in one of her favorite places, Taurus. She pulls away from Mars, the passionate planet. Venus knows she looks good no matter what size she wears and the feminine planet knows how to wear anything with style. This bodes well for shopping: merchants get a boost. However, it’s for things that last and have great quality, too. As long as Venus and Mars are close to each other, we are willing to risk both our hearts and our dollars. The last week of the month, Saturn tosses his dour opinion of it all into the mix. He’s always got something practical that needs your attention and your money: Probably your utility bills…Darn! Work hard now, get paid later. Or, invest in repairs now or be stranded later. You get the drift.

July brings a total solar eclipse on the 21st. It is only visible in Asia. It begins on the east coast of India and will be visible in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Then, it moves west through Bangladesh, Nepal, Burma, China and Japan. These are already hot-spots in the world. When an eclipse comes through it seems to bring activity with it. If it’s newsworthy it is often chaotic. Generally, the time between eclipses is emotionally volatile. This time the solar eclipse is sandwiched between two Lunar Eclipses. The first comes on July 7th, the second lunar eclipse on August 5th. When you think of eclipses imagine emotional “stuff” highlighted in your life and your fears for the future broadcast between your ears. There is no better time than July to distinguish the difference between something real to be afraid of and something imagined that distracts you. It is so important to do your meditation or prayer to get down to the bottom of your fears. Life doesn’t guarantee us safe passage, but it is up to us to navigate our fears or succumb to them. For most of us, this is merely an opportunity to look ourselves in the eyes and choose a course for the future. It’s difficult because there is no way to know if the route we’ve taken is safe or treacherous. One thing is certain: the world is round and we’ll get where we need to go eventually.

The Solar Eclipse falls in a place in the heavens that deals with success. It pushes us out of comfort and helps us take a leap for the future. Simply put, if you are looking for a job, a relationship or a reason to get up in the morning, July offers just enough irritation to send out your resume or answer that personal ad. Things start moving with an eclipse and you might just find a better fit for you. Be patient with your emotional complexity and the moods of others. We have another lunar eclipse on August 5th at 7:38pm CDT. That’s a whole lot of volatility in time and space. We’ll each need a little extra grace when feelings grab hold of facts and leap. Yes, our world’s leaders are vulnerable to that, too. Breathe in your most conscious and gracious thoughts…until they become natural.

August: Will summer’s heat never fade? That lunar eclipse on the 5th begins the month with an extra dose of irritability. Better check the facts before you throw down the gauntlet. Lovers and corporations are renewing their commitments and if it’s time to call it quits, the end is clear. If you find yourself blissfully enjoying the minutes of your day, try to share that sense with others, but don’t be too pushy. Mars, the action planet, is stressed by Saturn until the 17th. These two don’t get along. Annoying but essential repairs become obvious and irritation is a part of life. If they happen to hit your chart tightly, you might lose your temper in the wrong place and time. The antidote for this combination is exercise and simple chores that need physical output. But it’s August! Unless you live in the Pacific Northwest, it’s too hot to exercise and way too hot to be irritated politely. However, that’s what makes it “service” or dedicated action or a form of mental discipline… Just put one foot in front of the other and get it done; do it again if necessary and know that you are not alone.

September: Mercury is retrograde from the 6th until the 29th. Pluto appears to stop and go forward on 9-11 and Uranus opposes Saturn on the 15th: Mercury retrograde periods send us inward to revisit old thought patterns and the forms as they appear in our lives. It is associated with missed appointments and mistakes. They culminate in frustration, irritation and cost us in time to redo work. The Pluto station may bring threats on the anniversary of 9-11. Expect heightened alerts. Travel will go slowly. When Pluto appears to stop in the heavens, it is almost like a cosmic clock striking a loud stroke in global hot spots. This is strongest during the week before and the week after the apparent stop. Be alert and “tuned in.”

There is no better time than retrograde Mercury to get the old car repaired or make certain you back up your work. The frustration level is high so folks inevitably lose patience with themselves and with others. Just apologize and move forward. Often, the miscommunication is so big there was no one who was right, but the desire to be understood or heard trumped a prudent response.

Finally, Saturn opposing Uranus is the astrological combination most associated with economic change of direction and restructuring. This began in November of 2008 and will continue through 2010. The aspect is very strong this month. There is no better time to look around at what you’ve begun and invest time, money and hope in the changes that are already underway. It takes time to develop different sources of jobs and gross domestic product. One thing is certain, the US is rich in resources and people. We have an abundance of land per person and a long history of innovative ideas and exciting responses to struggle. It is important to be prudent; Uranus likes to tear things down just so he won’t have to think about it or “them” any more. Saturn builds on slow, careful plans. When they face each other in the heavens, it takes careful diplomats to keep the balance gently shifting from side to side.

Obama Presidency: The Summer of 2009 finds him frustrated as Saturn, the slow moving taskmaster, crosses his Mars, the planet of action. This transit will occur during the first week of September. The reality of the snail’s pace of change in the nation’s capital is upon him and the frustration will be evident with his own party, as well as the Republicans. However, he has a trump card: Jupiter is a lucky planet for politicians. Jupiter brings momentum in the face of frustration and helps him spread optimism to those in the world, who are tired of the same old wars fought by opposing tribes. Jupiter literally sits on the ascendant or the threshold of his natal chart throughout September and October as the legislative branch gets back to work. It brings the “bigness” out in his spirit and the nation finds momentum of spirit, as well as in the economy. It is the gift of grace and the power to lead even through frustration. This is the momentum we need to grow the economy and he is a messenger faced with frustration and still riding the enthusiasm of a bigger picture and a vision of peace. His detractors will continue to discredit him. His policies will pull more to the center as the Marketplace jockeys for tax incentives, which they will get, and the giant ship of state will pull ahead. Not quite on the course he envisioned when he was free of the obligations and responsibilities of Commander and Chief, but still going forward. The Market can continue to grow into and through 2010 based upon the course set this September and October. Expect speeches and world meetings that will go down in history and expect opposition from militant and fundamentalist groups, who fear unity. Whew! What an exciting time to be alive!

Listen to the economic news and it sounds as if we’ve never been here before, or worse that we are on the verge of economic collapse. The Market is emotional and the emotion for the present is fear. It’s difficult to look at investments and not feel as if the end is near. Still, we’ve been here before and each time the fear slowly fades into the past and is replaced with real estate appreciation, a rise in the price of oil and a Market boom–somewhere.

Astrologically, there is change in the air symbolized by Saturn, the planet of structure and order, opposing Uranus, the restless planet of change. The last time this appeared in the heavens was 1965. The last time there was a big gathering of planets in the heavens where they have been this winter was February of 1962 and the last time the eclipse path fell where it has been in the past year was 1990. There were economic adjustments during each of these times and we grew out of them each time as well. As the planets pull apart and we get greater perspective and less fear-filled emotion this spring, opportunities will begin to appear and the emotion of the Market will turn positive.

I confess that I didn’t foresee the great Market dive. However, the opportunities this spring are great. It’s true, if you don’t have a job or are afraid you’re about to lose yours, it’s difficult to think about opportunity. For those who do, however, there is no seed as ready to be planted as the seeds for the future in the soil of this spring, particularly in May and June.

We begin the season with all of the planets, except Saturn, in soulful lunar mansions that remind us to turn inward for guidance in difficult situations. The Moon travels the whole wheel of the heavens each month and crosses Saturn, the planet of work and endurance, to help us put a plan into action. Then, she moves over the remaining planets over the course of about 10 days and, beginning about 10 days after, she crosses Saturn. Each month is essentially split into 3 segments: A look within to face fears of loss or lack, a segment to plan and initiate action, a segment of frustration or obstacles and another look within as we try to keep the plan moving. Each time the fear rises and each time the plan is tweaked or adjusted when the obstacles arise. For those of us who have some grey in our hair, we’ve been through this before and the gift of Saturn is the wisdom of experience and the knowledge that it only looks like the end of financial flow. Opportunities will rise if we have the perspective to see them and some cash left to invest.

By the time we get to June, the Sun, Mercury, Venus and Mars have all started something new and have great momentum behind them. Jupiter then spends the whole month of June wedding our luck or abundance to the mystical path. It is true that Jupiter with Neptune can be illusion and delusion by the political world or the world of beliefs in general. However, it is also true that these beliefs are born of man and it is up to us to read the fine print or the party platform and to decide what we believe and who we will follow. One of the greatest gifts of the current economic rollercoaster ride down the real estate mountain is the reminder that we are ultimately responsible for what we invest our time, money and beliefs in. It may seem like a great bailout, however, there is nothing quite like economic crises to remind us that we are all connected and not just in the Jungian collective way, but through our investments and bank accounts. It doesn’t matter how many whatzits and gadgets are made in Asia if no one is buying them in the West.

April: The planets are pulling apart. No longer are they tied into an intense grasp as they were all winter. Now, Venus, the planet of love and money, appears to move backward, but she is in a soulful, high-minded place. This is helpful for carefully planned investments and soulful romantic, friendly or filial relationships. She lingers all this month and part of next in the constellation Pisces. As we begin April, Mercury and the Sun have recently crossed her and are stretching business and life-force energy out into the arenas of possibility. On the 17th Venus literally appears to stop in the heavens and turn forward. It’s time to look around and see if you are ready to move forward. I’ll bet Facebook sites have been buzzing with old friends and rekindled romances this winter. Now, we spend a week taking careful survey of the time invested and its potential return.

Venus Joins Mars on April 21st in a soulful and magnetic place in the heavens. The potential for a spiritual, evolutionary leap through love and attraction is great. Venus is also the planet of money. At this time, she is stronger than Mars and there are many who are being guided to abundance in all areas of life and love.

May: It is time to look back over the past few months to assess your own fears and opportunities. The planets spread apart and we get a greater perspective of personal and collective opportunity. These adjustments are never easy. If you have a stable job, be generous and grateful. If you’re struggling, look into your eyes in the mirror and remind yourself that you are being led to a great opportunity and then look for it around every corner. Retrograde Mercury is from May 6th to the 30th. It’s time to reflect, rest your mind, review your plans for the future and remember what is important in your life. When you feel the burden of responsibility, remember that responsibility is an indicator that you are committed to another person or promise made. Mercury is a business planet. Lots of folks are talking about opportunities from the giant Stimulus Package or spending bill. I’ll bet that the vocal opposition continues throughout Obama’s Presidency. For now, it’s time to review the plan and clarify it.
June: Venus joins Mars on June 21st. This entire month, Mars is stronger and he is ready to take a risk; the drive to succeed and the desire to take action through business and relationships grows ever stronger. When you think of Mars, think of action, capitalism and service. The service sector is in the news. Expect businesses to emerge that provide services fed by the Stimulus package. In the area of love, there are daring new relationships popping up everywhere. In business, the signs are strong for growth.

1990-1991: The last time the real estate bubble blew was in the mid-1980′s and there was a recession in 1990-1991. That was the last time Mars joined the eclipse path where it is today. Think about Mars as action or reaction. It is interesting that today the news is doom and economic gloom‚ much as it was then. At that time oil boomed, then fell along with real estate prices and stocks. Then, we were certain that there would never be another boom and prayed that we’d keep our jobs to avoid going bust. These cycles go round and round. So cycles the fear that the bottom will fall out and so goes the burden on taxpayers to pay the debt that we somehow manage to navigate as we rise again to a place of economic enthusiasm. Look around, the tone is somber and the call to invest in the nation is resonate. Look too, for advisors, who have a broad perspective as there are opportunities. They see the trends and follow the money from tax-payers’ pockets into businesses.

If history continues to repeat itself, those that are wise are on the threshold of economic and spiritual opportunity. Can you remain peaceful and calm in the face of frightening news? Will you be part of the reconstruction? Will you reach beyond fear of what you cannot change to find opportunity? Will we all vow to sell sooner next time if there is just one more boom? This spring it is important to remember that these are cycles. It’s up to us to search for opportunities when the buzz is fear. It’s up to us to remain detached as much as possible while we rebuild, and we will rebuild.

Obama: Uranus and Mars face his Mars during the last week of March through mid-April. Uranus will trigger his Mars a total of 3 times. The last two are October 25th, 2009 and January 6th, 2010. The last week in March should show a more assertive stance in several areas from our Commander and Chief. The Uranus transits to Mars are innately unpredictable. GWB nearly choked on a pretzel during a Uranus Mars transit and flew off a Segue on another. He is alive and well so I’d caution us not to assume dire circumstances. Instead, I’d like to talk about what these transits “feel” like. Uranus is like an electrical current. Mars is the planet of action and drive. Put the two together and a person feels restless and unsettled. It seems that other people are doing crazy things and no matter where you turn someone or something is upsetting your plans for a simple day. The transit for O is complicated by transiting Saturn to his Mars. That feels frustrating. No matter where you roll or how good things appear, you land behind the 8-ball again. It’s frustrating and often exhausting. Mars is the planet of action, aggression and service. With Uranus and Saturn on his Mars, it seems that obstacles and irritating people are everywhere.

April is a most volatile time for President Obama where his vocal opposition will be heard. It is intense and combative as the right rally on the energetic wave of economic crises and the President takes hard questions and challenges. April may be the biggest challenge of his career. I would anticipate threats, but that is part of the office. I also expect difficulties with some in his Cabinet as the man whose staff must anticipate everything, continues to be confronted with the unexpected at every turn.
The President and we will make it through this. The surprises aren’t over, but we can choose how we will respond. It is not an accident he’s our leader now. Fortunately, he also has one very favorable transit that begins on March 24th. Lucky Jupiter crosses the front of his chart. President Clinton started his presidency with Jupiter in the 1st house during his first year in office. The transit is good for persuasion and passion. Jupiter is known to passionately present his views and is the consummate proselytizer of the zodiac. His chart is stress-filled, but this aspect looks too good for him to fail and “We the People” can only benefit from his ultimate success.

Hello New Year and the excitement of anticipation! Change is in the air. It’s not a passive expectation, but one born of nervous excitement and anticipation that the “change” in Washington is more than a campaign promise. It is also the renewed enthusiasm of the 1960 election of JFK. Remember the great Inaugural Address of January 20th, 1961? That’s where we get the famous quote that would be the light of a generation. “Ask not what your country can do for you: Ask what you can do for your country.” Again, we have a great orator and a president with a presence that is “big.” Again, we are in an economic crisis and again, we need to dig in and turn the economy around. Is this merely a coincidence or is it an opportunity?

January begins a year of rebirth: If you could see all the planets in the heavens at one time, you’d see that all but two are spread across just two constellations: Sagittarius and Capricorn. Pluto lingers in a zone that holds the black hole at the center of the Milky Way. This section is called Mula in Vedic astrology and is known for destruction and rebirth. Ancient astronomers call this the womb of our solar system. This might be symbolic or it might be literal. The key word is rebirth. Pluto has been in this mansion for more than a year. As we begin the year, Mars, the planet of war on any front; action and service at every level, has just crossed Pluto. On some level, as we move through the month, we’ll take a collective breath. As we begin the year, we are waiting to exhale.

Venus, the planet of love, who can be a little greedy, has just moved away from Neptune, the planet of illusion or mystical mysteries. We move through this month and pull on every spiritual teaching we’ve ever learned: from a child’s prayer to complicated ritual. We reach for faith. We ask for guidance and protection. As Venus pulls away we reach for her financial side. She is the planet of love and money. In late January, she crosses Uranus and faces Saturn. The planet of love and money is set free from the past and faces the planet of work. Saturn is the foundation, but before we can rebuild, we need to detach (Uranus) from the past without destroying it. It should be a big stimulus and a sign that the new administration has some grace from the heavens.

The Inauguration: We can’t talk about January without the inauguration of Barack Obama as President of the U.S.A. He has promised something bigger than a political party. His Inaugural address will reflect this. I picked Obama out of the big pack of Democrats in October 2007 because of the planets on this day: the transits to his chart. He was born with Jupiter, the guru, teacher and politician, in the same place in the heavens where Jupiter sits now. Mercury sits next to Jupiter on January 20th. This is particularly powerful for words and for business. They are joined by the Sun, the planet of life-force-energy. They all sit in a lunar mansion that deals with “universal virtues.” This is a combination of unity and a desire greater than ego or the individual man to be the vessel for change. This is his destiny and we wish him a safe passage through this part of history and we hope that he can carry “We the People” along with his powerful and inspiring connection to something Big. I like to think of Obama as a man who will help the nation revitalize her soul. He has the capacity to bring out the best in most of us. His speeches will be remembered. Don’t miss the Inaugural Address on the 20th.

The Solar Eclipse on January 26th falls in a mansion that is great for learning and listening. Here we have a call to listen deeply with every part of our being. We’ll see clues to economic growth and industries. Watch for companies that are lean or that manufacture a useful product. I know we’ve come to be a service industry nation, but the planets gathered in Capricorn are about tangible resources. They might be wood, stone, minerals or food. Utilitarian is another key word. Things that are simple, perhaps a bit ascetic, make the news. Watch for businesses that teach others how to work together. Pride in “American Made” is coming back. Watch now to see which companies are coming home or how our legislators are making it desirable for them to do so.

February: Mars has left Pluto behind. In fact, Pluto is the only planet left in the destructive lunar mansion, Mula. This is good news. Now, there are 5 planets clustered together in the constellation Capricorn. They are surprisingly reminiscent of a cluster in 1962. The three lunar mansions in Capricorn include the one for “universal virtues”; the one about listening and learning and the one about actively drumming up business. What better way to get the economic train going again? Who are these planets? Well, Jupiter, the great teacher, is there. Mars joined him in late January. Mercury is there, too, as well as the Sun. Neptune is at the every end of this group. He’ll move on by the end of the month. For now, we need his mystical faith to help us stay connected to the collective mission and not buckle under personal fear. Venus helps us. She’ll be exalted or at her best from January 27th until May 30th. We can all reach for the best in love and guidance about money as individuals and as a nation. It’s up to us to hold the vision and be tolerant.

March: Business is going somewhere. There is activity and some sort of stimulus that draws the attention of businesses here at home. If that’s the case, it will become real so be patient. There is so much activity shown by placements in the heavens that it’s hard to imagine it is just talk. We start the month with Mercury, the planet of talk, and business in every form, crossing Mars, the planet of action; and, well, aggression, service and daring. These two might signal daring words and a business plan to get the giant shark called capitalism swimming again. It might also signal bleeps and blunders with the microphone on. This combination is strong during the first week of March. By the end of the month, Mercury follows the New Moon (Sun and Moon together) and crosses Venus. Both Venus and Mars are exalted when Mercury crosses them. We can reach for the best of Mars in terms of service and great compassion from Venus. At the very least, this month is about vocal passion and romance. Venus is retrograde: time to turn within and find your best. However, the potential for soulful grace and compassion is great. It’s up to you to reach for the potential. The reach is the action part. Compassion will require that action.

Retrograde Mercury: Mercury turns retrograde on January 11th until February 1st. This is the time when communication and transportation seem most likely to run amok. A retrograde movement is simply the period of time when a planet is closest to the Earth. We watch the planet in the sky and it appears to move backward. This is when the planet’s archetype or energy turns inward. Mercury is a mental planet: we forget appointments and long for quiet time. It’s a challenge to return calls or even leave the right number when we call. It’s a business planet. These are times we need to get down to business, but we’d really rather be on the island of our dreams. If you really do need to make that appointment, confirm it! Some astrologers say this is a bad time to travel. I like to travel during Mercury retrograde…as long as I’m not tightly scheduled. It’s a great time to meander in an exotic place without any phones or appointments to make.

Venus goes retrograde: Venus turns retrograde from March 6th until April 17th. Venus is the planet of love and money in their most simple or conceptual ways. Venus turns retrograde and we look back in time on love of the past. Don’t be surprised if a long-forgotten love tracks you down. The search sites will be abuzz this spring. This is also a time to look within and see where you spend your money. It might be good to take notes or really look at your debit card statement to see where you’ve spent. Venus is about pleasures. When she turns inward, the pleasures of the spirit and those of insight are strong. These are peaceful periods for those that are the contemplative: times that ultimately lead to peace. No matter if your battle is with coworkers, family, memories or thoughts of the future, Venus moves into Pisces in your Vedic chart on January 28th and stays there until May 30th. Find your Pisces house and that’s where you will journey within and with love.

How the Love Grows: Venus is so soulful and introspective that we see our lovers and spouses from the filter of the soul’s light. We see their light even when we know they irritate us. This may be easiest to see with a romantic partner, but it stretches to all relationships…even the folks who irritate us most! Venus lingers in lunar mansions that are great for meditation. A peaceful mind is better equipped to overlook the little stuff.

How the Money Flows: It may be erratic, but money does flow. The giant economic train begins to snort steam and slowly move. I hope it will gain momentum quickly. At least in retrospect this winter will be remembered as a time when we started rolling again. That’s rolling…not falling.

The Obama administration of change: The planets are strangely similar to those in the early 60′s. One strange international union has been Russia and Venezuela. Reminiscent to the cold war, Russia sent a nuclear submarine and ships to Venezuela where both nations are publicly doing naval exercises as I write this. Might they want to elicit fear-filled memories of the Cuban Missile Crisis? It will be fascinating and sometimes frightening to see how this administration handles international and national crises. Obama’s chart is one of a wise old soul who is here to fulfill his destiny. “We the People” elected him based upon little other than his presence. Call it charisma or false political promises, but I feel it is something bigger. Will folks find a way to get along or will we feed on the fear that “those” people won? It’s up to us to reach for bigness in the face of fear that often brings out pettiness. Let’s envision unity and success. Mars and Venus will be very strong this winter. I dare you to reach for the biggest part of your character. That would be the greatest change in recent years. Let’s get the great engine of our nation’s economy and philosophy going again. It will take most, if not all of us, to push her. I believe Obama is a leader who can inspire us to push.

Are We in The Grasp of Destiny or is Destiny In Our Grasp?

From the beginning of Autumn until December 17th, all of the visible planets will be on one side of the ecliptic path. Since the Moon runs around the heavens every month, she’ll venture out of the grasp of the great serpent, which is the way Hindu astrologers describe this formation. What this means literally is the visible or “personal” planets are all on one side of the heavens. The heavens are divided by the ecliptic. It’s called a “great serpent” because if you were to mark the points where the Moon rises and falls on the ecliptic path, it would appear to undulate. It doesn’t take an astrologer to note that this period of time encompasses the remainder of the Presidential Election. Now that we have Barak Obama as the Democrat’s nominee and Sarah Palin as the Republican VP choice of political maverick John McCain, there is no doubt that we are making history and something big has the nation and the electorate in its grasp.

If the Moon is our perceptions and she moves around the heavens quickly, this is the way out of fear and into trust. This is how we experience life and, ultimately, accept that change is part of life and not merely a campaign slogan. We lay out our plans and act accordingly. However, we are tested by change as we accept that at times we feel very out of control. We must learn to bend with the great serpent or fall under the weight of the unexpected. The challenge is to detach from the fear, take a deep breath and remember that destiny is within our grasp. We can bend our plans to move with life as we meet it.

No matter which party wins, there is a politician with long experience and a partner with comparatively no experience running. We will manifest change, but do we trust the process? Ultimately that’s what we must do because to fear it and “them” is to be tossed around by the fates. To embrace the process and play a part is to be part of Destiny and to be empowered.

As the Moon pulls away from the other visible planets, we get some distance or perspective on the election and our fear or faith in the process. We are tested as the Moon pulls into them. The test is rather like the test of a small boat in the ocean. Will you ride with the waves or fear them: Can you trust your skills and those of your fellow citizens while you navigate the power of an election? Remember, in a democracy the other party wins some of the time….smiles. Are you part of the nation no matter what, or separate from it in spirit or in action? It’s tricky because fear is easier to come by when it’s broadcast to you by the opposing parties. There is only one thing that is certain: “We the People” will make history with our choice. It can go either way, but no matter which party wins, their candidate has already rebelled against the party of the past and is moving forward. It is exciting that we can each remain emotionally afloat. Here is a list of dates where the Moon moves into and out of the grasp: In- Oct. 1, Out- Oct. 9th; In- Oct. 21, Out- Nov. 5; In- Nov. 18, Out- Dec. 2.
The big areas of action in the heavens are 15-30 degrees of Sagittarius where Jupiter brings in abundance and throws it to the same segments of Aries, Gemini and Leo. The more challenging zone is 22-30 of Leo and Aquarius where Saturn (the structure) and Uranus (the unexpected) planets push against your plans and push you to change direction. This also spills onto the same segments of Scorpio and Taurus. These are all in your Vedic chart.

Jupiter remains unusually strong until mid-December: Jupiter is all about the law so the Supreme Court is in the news and active this season. Jupiter is beliefs, politics and optimism. It supports the Market and stimulates spending. Jupiter is acting, media and PR. With Jupiter moving fast and strong, it’s easy to see that a fortune will be spent on ads for the candidates by overt and covert groups. However, Jupiter is the big picture and excitement for the future. It suggests that the candidates and “We the People” are interested in where we as a nation are going and how we’ll get there. This is not the usual election so ask big questions and search for the answers. I hope the media will ask, too…we deserve a big and optimistic vision with a detailed plan on how to get there.

October: October begins with Venus strong through the 13th. She recently crossed Mars, starting a new phase in relationships. Let’s just say that the planet of love and money is spending some of what she’s got on primping. She is a creative planet, so she can get that fresh face and brighten up her wardrobe and her home on a budget. On the 14th she moves into a sweet give and take mutual reception with Mars. Their embrace will linger through November 7th. Venus is ready for a partner, but she is also ready to meet and mingle for a time before she decides. Mars is willing to chase and the anticipation is strong. This is good for romance and for refreshing the love you already have. Apply it to your resume and you will find fresh ways to look at what you’ve learned in the past. Apply it to your business and feel the love as you take in the praise of clients, both new and old. Jupiter helps as he is the ultimate optimist and he’s moving forward now. In fact, he’ll gain momentum through the rest of the year. If you have a class you’ve wanted to take or a group you thought about attending, get out the door and go!

Mercury, the communication planet, is retrograde until the 15th. Be sure to repeat all numbers and confirm your reservation. Back up your computer and store up on batteries for your phone. If you aren’t sure of the directions to your meeting, then you had better double check with two different online map/direction services. It would be wise to talk to a person, too. If you’re thinking of changing your internet service, wait until after the 15th. Until then, wait amongst loads of disgruntled customers looking for a better way. Of course, if you are in sales, this is a time for great opportunity and the best day of all is the 15th, when Mercury goes direct! Just don’t forget that this period of time is when the mind longs for silence (which, of course, is why you accidentally flushed your phone). There is no better time to revisit plans that veered away from your planned path. There is also no better time to redo and renew your personal ad, or rework your business plan or replay your spiritual tapes… .

November: Romance is playful and we are all distracted by the election. On the 7th, folks get down to business. Mars pulls into his own constellation of Scorpio for the remainder of the year. This is a fierce place for competition and this transit of Mars in the last 7 years has been associated with aggressive military action in Iraq. Hopefully, that will not be true this time. This is a strong period for clear, decisive action in every area. It is also one where it’s easy to be misled by your opponent. That might not be a big deal if you’re playing chess with resin figures. However, if you’re trying to win the big deal or the love of your life, then it’s better to be honest and direct, but also to remain aware that your opponent may not be. Simply put, show up and do your best, but keep your antennae tuned in to your surroundings.

December: There is a very delicate or perhaps volatile combination of planets forming. Mars is strong. He’s good at action, aggression and service. Sometimes Mars pulls into a stressful aspect with Uranus and unexpected events happen or are uncovered. Sometimes he pulls into a stressful aspect with Saturn and fear sends the Market down or prompts reaction from fear. When all three are combined we, at the least, feel vulnerable to the forces of life and death. We sense that some things are out of our control and we react. If something doesn’t feel right, then trust your first hunch and move away. The election will stir emotions for the losing party and its followers. It’s up to us all to trust and to keep our eyes open. The change already happened, yet a reaction could be extreme. There is no month where it is more important to keep your faith and hold your spiritual center. This may only be a collective fear or a threat. I assume that Al Qaeda will make threats throughout the election to try to influence the parties. However, if there is a deranged person, who wants to make history, then I believe he’ll make his move at this time. I pray that he’ll be stopped.

From December 12th until the 19th, Mars makes a stressful transit to Barak Obama’s Mars as Saturn sits upon his Mars and Uranus opposes it. This is an eerie combination reminiscent of the transits to JFK’s birth chart when he was assassinated. Assuming that the times of birth we have for both men are accurate, both were born with a powerful Mars placed in the 8th house of life and death. Will Obama follow in JFK’s footsteps to win the election and then go quickly to the grave? I hope not. I feel certain that those protecting him will give him good coverage and he will be wise. Perhaps, though, there will be an attempt and threats. The source of the threats will surprise him and all of us.

If we pay attention we’ll feel the wobble. After the 15th Mars pulls onto Pluto and the New Moon on the 27th has the potential to bring us together through great emotion and possibly suffering. The New Moon with Pluto and Mars are in a lunar mansion that deals with creation that follows destruction.
Throughout the holidays we are reminded that we are one nation. I hope that these are only fears and threats. Do your part to remain aware of your surroundings. I would definitely check within before traveling. I hope that this is the time when we prepare for the gifts of political change, while we remain alert to those who would stop at nothing to see us fail. It is a delicate month for the Market. Fear is in the air and the Market usually struggles when investors are afraid. It is possible that we will lose a powerful public/political figure at this time and it will bring us together. It is likely that that person will have already retired, but it will still stir emotion. Senator Kennedy has cancer: He’s the first to come to mind. Please know that I do not believe that we as astrologers can predict life or death.

When I looked back in history to a time when Mars joined Pluto in this mansion, Mula. I had to go all the way back to November 1760. Here are a few fascinating bits of history from 1760. I found letters written by John Adams as he pondered the importance of working hard in the world as a young man, but becoming a judge later. He spoke of age as a time when the mind is cluttered, and youth when it is essentially free. George Washington wrote mundane letters of daily life. Nothing foreshadowed the Revolution to come just 16 years later. In Europe, Enlightenment was the rage. In China, Canton became the only port licensed to do business with Europe. In the Americas we had the end of French Resistance in North America and Britain gained control of much of French America. The Boers settled in South Africa. We see change and movement and a shift in control of what would become the U.S.
This mansion of Mula was also triggered in the first 3 months of 2008. We felt the grip of economic fear, but we are still moving on. Perhaps it is the morbid nature of man to find the worst in the times we live; then, remember them as “the good ol’ days!” Great smiles arise from the irony of life and a vote to celebrate this moment. Let’s embrace it. We do hold destiny in our grasps.

The Race: As I write this, the race has been pretty gentlemanly. Both candidates have made a promise that their people will not attack the other’s spouse. They are both vying for media attention. Obama has been the media darling. McCain was the old dog with little wow factor. Then there was the Saddleback interview where McCain was the clear winner, followed by the Obama extravaganza where tens of thousands of people crammed Mile-High stadium and more wished they could get in to be a part of history. Then that was trumped by McCain’s pick of 44-year-old Sarah Palin, governor of Alaska. Wow! One thing is certain: there will be an inexperienced man in the Oval Office on January 20th or an inexperienced woman one heartbeat away. Both men have defied their respective Parties and taken destiny in their hands and held it to this point. Both will leave politics changed for the better. Both have made history.

The media will now divide its attention between the two candidates and their running mates. Both will be motivated to name wise advisers, who will be there to make up for lacking resumes and time on earth. Both will shake hands and put forward their platforms and philosophies and strategies. “We the People” will ultimately choose and I honestly can’t say which one will win based upon their transits. Both candidates have very difficult transits on Election Day. Both have some wonderful transits on Inauguration Day. This usually isn’t this difficult. Usually one has more wonderful…or worse transits than the other, but this time it’s a draw. The loser will leave the election with enormous power in the Senate and on the lecture trail. The winner will likely reach across party lines to the loser in a show of national unity. Election Day will be hard on both and the scandal mongers or PACs will throw plenty of dirt around. It’s up to these two men to remain gentlemen as they ask for our votes of confidence in their respective plans for the future of our nation and it is up to us to take our votes seriously and to consider carefully.

There is so much change in the air. It’s hard to imagine that Obama will not win. Biden’s chart looks pretty darned good for both the election and inauguration. Palin’s chart does not. I don’t know if she’ll make it through November. She is tough and driven, but Neptune lingers on her Sun, Mars and Saturn conjunction. The scandals have only just begun. It will take great effort to rise above them; however she is forever in the history books. If I had to pick one chart of the 4 as the big winner, it would be Joe Biden’s. The second is McCain’s, the 3rd Obama’s and the last is Palin’s. Obama’s chart looks good on inauguration day, so I’m betting that he’ll still be here no matter how many astrologers predict otherwise. McCain has some wonderful aspects, so I’ll say that he still looks good after the election and has great power even if Obama wins (and that sounds a little crazy to me as I write this). If McCain wins, I believe he’ll reach over to Obama. Obama will have great legislative power in the Senate…or McCain will! This is a really hard one to call, so I’ll end by saying I honestly don’t know by looking at their charts. It is really up to the voters to choose a philosophy and political plan for the future. It is up to us to insist our leaders embrace and create our destiny with us, not instead of us. “We the People” have an historic and immediate call to faith in the process.

It is not the stars, but “you” and “me” and “he” and “she” and “they” that ultimately reveal our destiny at this time. Both men are wise and able, but it is the people who choose in a democracy. We get to cast our votes for destiny and direct our thoughts so we are not trapped by the hands of fate. I leave you with the immortal words of Shakespeare: “The fault is not in the stars…but in our selves.” (Julius Caesar). I also end this with a reminder: This autumn may cycle between periods where you feel great personal power and those where you feel whipped like a dingy on the ocean waves. Through it all, we ask: “Am I in the grasp of the great serpent or am I taking hold of destiny with each choice, action and faith in the process of life and change?” This is history folks; it is now.

Welcome summer with the promise of heat, fun and economic rebuilding. July starts with a New Moon on the 2nd, just in time for America’s annual birthday party. The economy struggles with inflation and there is fear of foreign dollars. However, there is an excitement for what is to come through the Presidential Election. That collective enthusiasm is part of the spark of resilience that this nation and her economy are known for. Change is in the air and in the heavens.

Jupiter, the optimistic guru, slows to a halt; resiliency is the word this summer. Look to the sky and if your eyes are very sharp, you can see the planet Jupiter in the constellation Sagittarius. He’s so close to the Earth; he appears to move backwards. From July 1st until October 1st he moves just 6 degrees! Jupiter lingers in a lunar mansion that deals with goading or prodding the self or soul to a perspective greater than the self. Here, Jupiter is the proverbial push off the collective couch. Jupiter is the high minded-coach who motivates us to pull for the team to something greater. Sure, you can choose to ignore lofty ideals in favor of cynicism, but the latter is so full of isolation and inertia that it really does pay to reach for more. Jupiter is the planet of society and collective civility. We can give civility to each other, but we may need a gentle reminder from our mentors, Founding Fathers and Presidential candidates. Will you reach beyond your desires? Are you ready to play a part in the future?

Look to the constellation Leo. There you’ll find Saturn, the planet of structures and tenacity. Jupiter governs gold, but Saturn governs lead. Saturn is everywhere. He is the tick, tick, tick of time on the mortal clock of life. Resiliency is born from Saturn’s obstacles and shared through Jupiter’s broad soulful excitement for the future. One by one, Mars, Venus, Mercury the Sun and Moon will cross Saturn, then receive the gift of opportunity from Jupiter. Simply put, we are tested by mortal fears of lack or mortality. We come to appreciate each other and want to share that. The knowledge that we are all in this home, job, town, nation or world offers an inspired resiliency. The Conventions fall just as these aspects, or potential, moves through.

The Summer begins with the sense we are somehow alone. That is the frustration of Mars on Saturn. It feels in some way like having one foot on the brake and another on the gas. However, as the Summer comes to an end, We the People are working together. The momentum is palpable. Those of you who are really tuned in will feel it first. In fact, you’ll only feel the Mars Saturn as a call to determined spiritual awareness and inner action. The first planet to cross Saturn is Mars, the Planet of action, service, competition and even war. This is how we start the Summer that begins with separation, but ends with unity. The Presidential Election really is different this time. The Conventions will be lively and the Democrats will be compelled to be more Democratic. Even those disinterested by politics will tune in. Both Parties are challenged to meet the needs of their constituents and both candidates are wild cards. Jupiter is politics and Saturn is structure and order. The USA is making a shift, but you might not notice if you don’t think it’s possible.

July: Jupiter faces Venus as the month begins. They are both big spenders and there is plenty of money flying around during the holiday weekend. By the 8th economic bad news could send a little shudder through you, but it will not last. July starts off filled with enthusiasm, but the Market is not as fearless as we thought. Soon, Mars, the planet of action, will cross Saturn, the planet of responsibility. We the People are challenged to take responsibility as July comes to an end. This is the perfect month to develop a business idea. You see what we “need.” The 2nd and 3rd weeks are great to tackle a big task. Put your head down and chip away at it until it becomes a work of art. By the 25th, things are looking up. The last week of July is most interesting for relationships. Talk about destiny! Venus, the planet of love, crosses through the eclipse path as July comes to an end. There is no better time to use positive faith, love and heartfelt love to heal. That does mean you do the loving as well as expect it. It’s better to turn the cosmic plan for love over to a higher source. This month it truly does feel like destiny. Great Smiles

August: A Total Solar Eclipse comes on the 1st. It covers the Northern Hemisphere and should be most visible in the far Northern regions of Canada, The Arctic and partially visible across Europe and the Eastern Block. The big news will be about Arctic drilling and Global Warming. Expect surprising news and actions. This Eclipse falls on the planet Mercury and “news” is part of communications. However, Mercury also deals with business. The big talk will be the international market place with an emphasis on the areas illuminated by the eclipse. This is a cooperative lunar mansion that deals with enlightened action and prosperity. There is plenty of talk about global business, however, the near future is all about local business. The Lunar Eclipse on the 16th finds the planets Mercury, Saturn and Venus all together. Jupiter, the big picture planet, offers the big picture to all who will look. This should translate into peace talks from the boardroom, to the bedroom, to political power brokers. We truly are greater when we work together for a shared ideal. Politicians aren’t the only ones who know we have to cooperate to get things done. By the end of August, the Presidential Race is teaming with energy again. The Lunar Eclipse on McCain’s chart suggests that he is unusually lively this month. Just as the visible planets cross Saturn, the Conventions are held. The Democrats have theirs the 25th-28th. Expect surprises everywhere. The only thing certain is it will make history. The convention falls in the dark, slow phase of the Moon. This should calm the crowds and help them reach for inspired, spiritual union.

September: We find ourselves in the Grasp of Destiny. All the visible planets are on one side of the ecliptic. The Moon stays with them through the 13th, then has two weeks on the other side. Expect the first half of the month to be filled with excitement and the passion of history unfolding before us. The next 2 weeks is all about trying to figure out the details of how to do it and the ramifications of our collective action. Whew! That is bigger than the office drama. The potential for positive change from the economy to the world stage is here. Excitement fills the air as the summer comes to an end. The faster moving planets have pulled away. This month we anchor what we’ ve learned. Saturn and Jupiter are both moving so slowly that they work as one. If Jupiter is the big picture, Saturn is the beauty of little details. If Jupiter is the ideals of a Party or group, Saturn is the foundation that the big ideas are built upon. Saturn shows us where we need to cut in order to finance Jupiter’s New Deal. Jupiter helps us reach beyond immediate gratification for a plan for the future. This isn ’t a given, but it is a powerful potential when we reach for something big like the ideas this nation was built upon. September is all about the future. Jupiter is expansion, Saturn contraction. We are giving birth. It’s the start of a school year and the big push for the Presidential race. The Republicans have their convention from the 1st to the 4th during a dynamic New Moon energy. They might offer an economic plan that the people can grab onto. I wonder if they hired an astrologer for some added astro oomph?

The Race: It appears that the candidates get some down time in July. McCain has some frustrating transits that suggest to me that he’s not overjoyed about his running mate. I still think it will be Romney. McCain is a bit of a wildcard. He was born with Uranus, the revolutionary, in stressful aspect to Mars, the planet of action and service. This will probably be his last run and he will make it memorable. August and September are full of action as the “old dog” courts “the People.” In the meantime, Obama and Hillary make history. As I write this, it sounds pretty crazy, but I’m betting that he offers and she accepts the VP slot. I don’t think it will happen soon, but perhaps in August, just before the Convention. With his charisma and her strength, they will continue to draw attention. I expect her to accept the VP slot after negotiating to be an unusually powerful VP. Obama gets to breathe in July, then he comes out onto the world stage. Obama has some tricky transits, however, the one thing that is certain about the Uranus transit to his natal Mars is that it is innately unpredictable. If folks are talking about his demise that’s not what will come. Uranus is revolutionary and playful in everyway. It’s difficult to relax when you have a Uranus transit because you desperately want to be free. However, when you represent a huge nation and a party you are never totally free from scandal, criticism and, of course, the pull of “the party.” What makes these candidates and this election so refreshing is their innate destiny to facilitate change. If you think things are going to be the same ol’ same ol’, just park your cynicism on the couch while you watch. Plenty of folks are ready to participate from the left and right. Both candidates have reached across party lines in the past. Are you ready for that stretch? Will you reach beyond party lines for the best candidate? I’ll bet that happens in many ways across the land this fall, and in September we watch history being made as the Race carries us with it.

Love and Money: July begins with a little reckless spending and romance. That quickly slows, but comes back in September. Then, Venus and Mars join Mercury in the heavens. There is plenty of talk and action in the areas of love and money. In fact, we will look back on the Summer of 2008 as the birth of something exciting. We are ready to reach out, too. This gets stronger as the month goes on, but if I were going to look for love and plan for more money, I would take action anytime, but definitely on the 10th of September.

If you life has been filled with ongoing stress, depression, emotional swings or if it has seemed like the world is falling apart around you, then please read on. During the course of the past couple of years, in particular, life hasn’t been very fun for many of us. I’ll bet for some, donating a kidney or giving birth would be a welcome alternative if we would be guaranteed that the ongoing craziness in our lives would end. If you thought it was just you, that only your life was in turmoil, the truth is just about everyone has been challenged over the past few years.

The energy on the planet, this last year in particular, has been extremely difficult for most of us. What I have noticed over the course of the last few years is that the more sensitive you are, the more your life was being affected by “whatever” was going on. In my work, I have talked about this energy for a long time, but couldn’t understand its source. Well finally I think I have an answer to what has been happening.

I believe we have been experiencing the effects of Saturn as it moves through different signs of the zodiac.

I would never have looked to an astrological connection to the challenges that we have been facing had it not been for an article written by Carol Barbau about Saturn’s transit. While I am not an astrologer, apparently Saturn moved into Virgo on September 2. In the article she talked about how Saturn affected us while it was in its last sign Leo as well as what we could expect as it moved into and through Virgo. In reading the article I was amazed. She described the troubles in my life and the lives of many of the clients I have worked with over the past few of years.

This led me to doing some research on my own into the subject and this is what I will be sharing with you. For me, it was eye opening. I do hope that as you read through this material it will explain or at least help you to understand the who, what, when, where’s and why’s of what has been going on in your life. Trying to be as complete as possible, I have decided to turn the clock back 5 years to when Saturn was in Cancer and move forward from there.

Before we talk about how Saturn has affected us as it transited (moved through) Cancer, Leo and now Virgo, let’s first talk about Saturn and the energy of Saturn itself.

Saturn takes approximately 2 ½ years to move through each sign of the zodiac and 29 ½ years to make one complete rotation around the sun. Saturn can be likened to an authority figure. It is associated with limitation and restriction. It can be harsh, unforgiving and judging. In its limiting role, it needs rules, regulations and structure. It likes to build fences, set boundaries and create systems with carefully strategized steps.

As an authority figure, it points out our limitations and what isn’t working in our lives and expects us to rise up to the occasion. Manifesting as frustration, blockages or delays, it shows us where we need to put our effort and make changes in our lives. It works by stripping us down to our essentials and gives us the opportunity to rebuild ourselves. Through this, it allows us to transform our weaknesses into strengths.

While this may sound harsh, without defining boundaries and constructing strategies, our lives would end up being unruly and haphazard at best. In addition, without our flaws being exposed, we would end up making the same mistakes over and over again without learning, improving or growing. And like any good parent, its tough-love approach may seem unforgiving, but it is coming from a place of love.

So now let’s go back 5 years and take a look at what astrologers said would be going on in our lives. Starting in June of 2003, Saturn moved into Cancer. Cancer is the sign of love and compassion. It’s free flowing nature sees the goodness in all things. It is all giving, embracing and nurturing. Cancer is the guardian of the home and family, which includes our ability to feel of secure personally and within our environment.

So what does that mean or how did we experience Saturn in Cancer. For many, emotional states flared or transitioned back and forth, which may have led some to experience feelings of depression. Remember, Saturn is working on taking us down to our bare bones and with its union in Cancer, it caused us to look really deep inside and evaluate our needs and decide what was truly important to us.

As we began to recognize what we wanted, we started to evaluate our relationship with ourselves and others. As a result, we might have seen major disruptions within our homes or in our personal relationships. In a family unit, it may have manifested as one parent taking on the Cancerian freedom loving role, while the other took on the job of disciplinarian.

We had the chance to see where things were working and observe if our needs were being met. I know, that in my private practice, I saw many people working on this aspect of themselves, where they embarked on the task of nurturing themselves. As they identified who they were and what they wanted, they started to create boundaries in order to correct the imbalances they observed.

As we embarked on nurturing ourselves and breaking patterns of behavior that were no longer useful, it is no wonder why there was so much conflict going on. And probably if you think back, many of the issues experienced revolved around our ability to experience love, nurturing and security in our lives. In the end, it opened many people’s eyes to the reality of how they were using their energy – both positively and negatively.

Finally on July 16, 2005, Saturn left Cancer and moved into Leo. In Caner we were presented with the opportunity to discover how we felt deep inside and now, with Saturn in Leo, we were being given the possibility to express who we now were. This was especially true with regard to our personal, professional and romantic relationships. The fire of Leo gave us the impetus to stand up for what we believed in and Saturn added the energy of letting us hold our ground as we began to show the world.

Leo is a sign that likes drama and to perform. It is fun loving and attention seeking. A little bossy and liking to have its own way, even according to astrologers, the transit of Saturn through Leo can and did create a bit of havoc in our lives. Saturn as an authority figure cannot help but to clash with Leo’s natural exuberance and need to have the final say-so.

The lesson of Saturn in Leo is many fold. First, we were afforded the opportunity to critically examine ourselves and explore our ulterior motives. We had the chance to evaluate the energy dynamics that occurred between ourselves and others. With Saturn in Leo, we were being tasked to project our newfound selves out into the world and display our “authentic selves” – not in an effort to satisfy our egos, but instead so that we could live our lives with integrity and passion.

For those who were able to find and be their true selves, they were rewarded. In turn, the imposters, meaning those that weren’t coming from a place of integrity suffered. What I found interesting was that for many of us parts of our lives worked fine, thus we were rewarded, while in other areas we suffered deeply. This suffering was an indication of the portions of ourselves or our lives that just weren’t working – places where our egos were still ruling the ship. As the transit through Leo continued, Saturn, in its parental role continued to strip us of our pride until we had no choice but to change and be ourselves or suffer the consequences.

Operating behind the scenes, this period was most likely overflowing with problems and tension. You may have found yourself anxious, restless and confused. You may have seen your life as being filled with setbacks or failures that hurt your self confidence and self-esteem. During this period of time, you may have had to shoulder more and more responsibilities, yet received no rewards. Instead, life because very serious and basically, no fun at all.

Thankfully, as I said before, Saturn moved into Virgo on September 2 nd of this year (2007). Virgo rules science, medicine, teaching and working for the common good. It is health conscious and service oriented. To me, this is one of the most important aspects of Virgo as we move into this next phase or our lives. This is especially true with regards to our relationships, be they personal, professional as well as our relationship with the planet.

Virgo realizes that we each have a duty to heal ourselves. We can do this by healing the pain of others. It is through these acts of selfless service that we inadvertently heal ourselves – and I think we can all use some healing right now. It is also during this transit period that we will be called to account for our excesses and continued failures as we begin to recognize how our destructive behaviors have contributed to the physical and mental suffering we have had in our lives.

So, wipe your brow and breathe a sigh of relieve because help is on the way. Thank God.

My final comment to you is this. You are being given a wonderful opportunity to heal. Be open to the miracle. Acknowledge the messages of spirit or the synchronicities in your life. Pay attention to what’s working and where you are experiencing resistance, setbacks or pain, because these are the areas in most need of healing. Most importantly, be open to the magic that this period has to offer.
